The project builds on the foundational work of Othmar Keel's Corpus der Stempelsiegel-Amulette aus Palästina/Israel, which cataloged thousands of pre-Hellenistic stamp seals discovered in modern-day Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. The CSSL platform, available at cssl.levantineseals.org, offers various ways to query the dataset. This dataset is the result of the SNFS Sinergia Project Stamp Seals from the Southern Levant: a multi-faceted prism for studying entangled histories in an interdisciplinary perspective (SNFS grant 186426). It comprises a deeply nested JSON file along with accompanying media files (mostly images). A comprehensive readMe.md file is included, documenting the data structure in detail. Upon the publication of new corpus volumes in print, the dataset will be expanded accordingly during the years 2024–2026 and beyond.enIconographyArchaeologyStamp sealsGlyptic studiesAnthropologyHistory of ReligionsArt and ArchitectureAncient Near EastSouthern LevantIsraelJordanPalestine900 - History::930 - History of ancient world (to ca. 499)200 - Religion::290 - Other religions200 - Religion::220 - The Bible300 - Social sciences, sociology & anthropology::390 - Customs, etiquette & folkloreDigital Corpus of Stamp seals from the Southern Levant (CSSL)Dataset10.48620/36471
