School-to-Work Transitions in Apprenticeship-Based VET Systems: The Swiss Approach

Publisher DOI
Description
This chapter discusses school-to-work transitions in the framework of apprenticeship-based vocational education and training. It is argued that the strong link to the labour market and the occupation-specific curricula – which are the trademarks of such systems – may facilitate school-to-work transitions, while at the same time bringing forward specific transition risks before, during and after apprenticeships. Empirical analyses focusing on school-to-work pathways of lower achieving school-leavers are used to underline the arguments.
