In this introduction I present the articles published in a special issue of Oriente Moderno devoted to Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in the Constitutions of the Middle Eastern and North African Countries. The articles shed light on how the issue of gender equality and women’s rights are addressed (if at all) within the constitutions of a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
