Description
Eda Elif Tibet - a PhD candidate on social anthropology at the university of Bern - met Abdi
Deeq at a shelter for unaccompanied minors seeking asylum in Istanbul. After spending a year conducting transformative research together, Abdi has found placement at a University. The duo continues co-producing knowledge and creating art-work to audiences beyond academia. This article is a reflection on the art work of Abdi Deeq that has been recently exhibited as Erase and Rewind> Sil Bastan> De Novo. Abdi highlights the plight of refugees in their loneliness, immobility, waiting, loops, preparations, failures, blockages, mundaneness, death and survival in hope. His artwork is an autobiography of a displaced childhood in search of finding a place in the world.
