Abstract
The paper discusses the development of the vegetation and landscape of Central Switzerland. It is based on intensive research namely in Zell and Rotsee. The results were obtained from pollen analysis and dated using Uranium/Thorium measurements, tephrochronology and palynostratigraphic correlations. The paper proves or confirms the Last Interglacial (Rissian/Würmian, correlated with the Eemian), the complete Early Würmian (115 ka - about 75 ka BP, a sequence of stadials and interstadials), parts of the Middle Würmian (about 75 ka — 25 ka BP, no forests, glacial advance which extends beyond the Late Würmian Maximum Staffelbach and Killwangen respectively) and the Late Würmian (25 ka - 10 ka BP, forested from the Bølling, in the Rotsee Laacher See Tephra). Reference is made to where further research is necessary: This is specially so in the Middle Würmian and in transition between Middle and Late Würmian.
