Abstract
Toggenburg natural yodelling is more than just a singing style. Connected to its natural surroundings, it not only blends acoustically into this soundscape, but also serves various social and psychological functions. In this chapter, the author, together with her interlocutor, explores the background and functions of Toggenburg natural yodeling from an emic perspective and classifies the different facets of this vocal tradition according to ethnomusicological concepts.
