Please read these instructions carefully. It is about the use and protection of your data.

BORIS Portal collects information about the research activities and results of researchers at the University of Bern and Inselspital, links them and makes them publicly visible. The aim is to improve the visibility of research at the University of Bern. Some information on research activities will be aggregated and used for reporting to the faculties of the University and the Canton of Bern.

The legal basis for this data processing is the University Act of the Canton of Bern, Art. 2 (Promotion of the transfer of knowledge and innovation) and Art. 8 (Promotion of the public's understanding of the scientific goals of the University, regular information on the focus and results of activities).

The following pieces of information will be checked against data from the database of the personnel administration of the University of Bern (PARIS) for the purpose of identification:

Name
Academic title
Organisational Unit (e.g. Institute)
UniBE email address
Role (a combination of your name and organizational unit)
Start/end date of role

In order to achieve the above purposes, the data under 1-4 will be displayed publicly immediately or in the future. The data under 5 will be treated as confidential and can only be viewed by authorized members of the university administration. The data under 6 will be treated as confidential and will only be visible to authorized members of the university administration.

BORIS Portal will also process other data entered by the submitter. Processing data includes, in particular, storing, linking, disclosing or deleting data as necessary for the purposes mentioned above.

Other data entered may include:

Externally provided identifiers such as ORCiD;
Information on research projects, such as researchers involved and organisational Units;
Information on funding of research projects (may be removed from public visibility by data submitter);
Documents that can be uploaded for internal purposes (e.g. project management) of the researchers. These documents are only visible to the project owners and the system administrator.

BORIS Portal employees receive instructions on the confidential and secure handling of the data entered. Although the accuracy of data and information is a priority for BORIS Portal, BORIS Portal cannot guarantee the accuracy and completeness of data. BORIS Portal accepts no responsibility for improper or incorrect data entry or for any damage or breach of law resulting therefrom. Should BORIS Portal receive indications of improper or incorrect data entry, the system administration reserves the right to correct, delete or withdraw this data from public visibility.
