Climatic and socioeconomic indexes for eastern China derived from the REACHES database

This Excel sheet displays Summer Temperature (STI), Drought (DI), Flood (FI), Crop Failure (CFI) and Famine (FI) Indexes derived from the REACHES database (available online at https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/study/23410).

Indexes cover the period 1440 to 1900 CE and are derived for the following major regions of China:
North eastern China (Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces);
Central eastern China (Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jianxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing Guizhou and Yunnan provinces);
South eastern China (Fujan, Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi provinces).

Drought (DI), Flood (FI), Crop Failure (CFI) and Famine (FI) indexes are calculated for each region using the following formula:
Event Index = Total Number of Event Reports/Total Number of Reports*
*100 year moving average.

Summer temperature index (STI) is calculated by averaging the Wang, P.-K. and Lin, K.E. Summer (May to September) Temperature Indices (also derived from the REACHES database; available online at https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/study/37720) over each region.
