This randomized trial, conducted in 2018, evaluated a training program promoting shared decision-making for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening within the nationwide Swiss Sentinel Surveillance Network (Sentinella). The dataset contains anonymized general information on primary care physicians (PCPs) from the Sentinella Network who agreed to participate in the trial, their allocation to the intervention or control group, and data from 40 patient consultations with adults aged 50–75 years who were seen for a non-urgent, face-to-face consultation lasting more than five minutes.
The dataset further includes the number of weeks PCPs required to collect data from all 40 patients, as well as patient age, sex, and previous CRC testing status. If patients had not been previously tested, PCPs reported whether CRC screening was contraindicated. If patients were eligible for a discussion about CRC screening, PCPs reported whether such a discussion took place or explained why it did not. During discussions, PCPs collected data on the presence of potential CRC symptoms and CRC risk factors. If patients refused screening, PCPs recorded the reason. Finally, PCPs indicated whether patients planned to undergo screening and the screening method chosen.
